The Spirit of Truth

What is our purpose?

The chief end of man is to Glorify God and to enjoy him for ever.

1Co 10:31 Then whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all things to the glory of God.

Why did God place Love above all else?

If you are busy loving on people then you have no time to fight with them. Jesus said that the greatest commandment is the first, followed by the second.

Mat 22:36-40 Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law? And Jesus said to him, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind." Deut. 6:5 This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: "You shall love your neighbor as yourself." Lev. 19:18 On these two commandments all the Law and the Prophets hang.

So what happens when you follow the first commandment?

John 14:15-21 If you love Me, keep My commandments. And I will petition the Father, and He will give you another Comforter, that He may remain with you to the age, the Spirit of Truth, whom the world cannot receive because it does not see Him nor know Him. But you know Him, for He abides with you and shall be in you. I will not leave you orphans; I am coming to you. Yet a little while and the world no longer sees Me, but you see Me. Because I live, you also shall live. In that day you shall know that I am in My Father, and you are in Me, and I am in you. He that has My commandments and keeps them, it is that one who loves Me; and the one that loves Me shall be loved by My Father, and I shall love him and will reveal Myself to him.

By loving Jesus, who is God, as the first commandment tells us, he will give to us a Comforter, the Spirit of Truth. This Spirit of the Holy living God will dwell within us.

What is the job of the Holy Spirit of Truth?

John 16:7-15 But I tell you the truth, it is advantageous for you that I should go; for if I do not go away, the Comforter will not come to you. But if I go, I will send Him to you. And having come, that One will convict the world concerning sin, and concerning righteousness, and concerning judgment. Concerning sin, because they do not believe into Me; and concerning righteousness, because I am going to the Father, and you no longer see Me; and concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world has been judged. I have yet many things to tell you, but you are not able to bear now. But when that One comes, the Spirit of Truth, He will guide you into all Truth, for He will not speak from Himself, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will announce the coming things to you. That One will glorify Me, for He will receive from Mine and will announce to you. All things which the Father has are Mine. For this reason I said that He receives from Mine, and will announce to you.

So, if the chief end of man is to glorify God and the first and second commandments are the best way to do this, then why don't most people embrace the gift that was given to us, by God, because of this very thing?

Only by equipping The Holy Spirit of Truth, with the Holy Word of God, can he do what he was sent to do. It is not up to God's people to judge and condemn others, with their own understanding. It is up to, an equipped, Holy Spirit to change us from within. An un-equipped Holy Spirit lies dormant in those that do not learn God's word. Even worse than this, when you try to show these people the Truth in Love, they can get very defensive and deny that there is a problem. I am strictly speaking of people that claim to be Christians and do attend church regularly. I believe this is part of Satan's plan and will get worse as time goes by, as predicted in Revelation, and called the apostasy of the church. It is prevalent in many churches today.

2 Timothy
3:16-17 All Scripture is God-breathed, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,
that the man of God may be perfected, thoroughly furnished to every good work.

If the above scripture passage is true, and I believe it is, then we as Christians have a responsibility to those young in the faith. We must bring the scriptures to them in a loving way and never force it upon them, as this can have disastrous results. By living and giving and showing our fellow believers the Truth In Love, through the word of Jesus Christ, we can help equip them to protect their faith, so that they can bring Glory to God.
